I don't really have any history as an artist, but I'm not bad with the pen tool, open to constructive criticism on my work:

Note: The lighting in the reference I used made her hair appear teal, though I think it's supposed to be more of a true green, some fiddling with the hue/saturation is advised.

Notes: Joints are fairly noticeable on the twintails while she is moving. I might see if adding more joints makes it better, but it might just be an unavoidable consequence of the curved shape of the hair.

Fia {Dynamic}

Fia Preview.png

Notes: This one could use some work, the hair seems rather flat, especially in the front (Where it's supposed to really stick out). Also I couldn't get the dynamic parts to layer the way I wanted, I wanted the long dynamic hair to be behind the ear / in front of the body but still be behind the ribbon / back of her hair (which are also above body, behind ear.) There were also supposed to be two longish strands hanging down from around the front of the hair, but I could not get them to be above ear but behind the static part that's also above everything.

Character code:
charName:Fia;mood:Normal;bodyScale:1.02;arms:onlegs,onlegs;throatResist:50;hair:sdchan,1,1;iris:normal,39,81,14,1;breasts:85;skin:light;nose:normal;ear:normal;lipstick:0,0,0,0,0;eyeshadow:0,17,0,1;sclera:255,255,255,1;blush:196,80,77,0.35;freckles:60,24,24,0.8,0;mascara:0,31,0,1,57;nailpolish:0,0,0,0;eyebrow:normal,0,57,0,0.38,0,0,0,0;hairhsl:0,1,1,1;skinhsl:0,0.91,1.09,0.93;herTan:none,1;swfMod:fia.swf,11111

Not bad at all! I'm surprised nobody's made Mako yet. Not a fanservice character in the least but this IS the internet...

Holy crap, I made that request months ago, but didn't actually think it'd ever be made! Well done indeed

Added Serene from Riviera.

Recently discovered this game on the PSN. Might try and make more of the characters but I had trouble finding good references for any of the others.

Added Lina from Riviera.

This hair was quite the project, given the relative complexity of the hair, a sub-optimal reference and being my first dynamic. Overall I'm pretty happy with it, the joints in the hair are rather noticeable when she moves but other than that I have no particular complaints.

Added Fia from Riviera.

Not really satisfied with this one, but I'll post it as is for now because it will probably be a bit before I'm motivated to return to it. Might also be a while before I try and make Cierra, these big hairs with poor references are rather time consuming. I may go back to some simpler projects for a bit.

That's impressive - most modders don't even attempt dynamic hair projects.

Let me know if you plan to undertake another one. I can walk you through some of the techniques that I've found useful, and help you to avoid a few pitfalls (e.g. filesize bloat due to the inclusion of raster images). It's important to start early, though - I glanced at the decompilation of Lina.swf, and it would take quite a bit of effort to fix it entirely (because we'd need to "undo" some of the early decisions). The workload would be similar to a brand-new project, so we might as well start fresh. Feel free to suggest an ambitious project. The layering difficulties that you mentioned (w/r/t Fia) are surmountable, and we can apply extended hair-physics if we want to create complex curls or gravity-defying shapes. Please don't choose Cierra, though - her hairstyle has too many strands (huge FPS penalty) and I can't find any good profile shots.

If you want specific technical feedback or criticism then let me know - I can provide it. But I figured that it would be more useful to run through a collaborative project; demonstrate good techniques instead of complaining about bad ones.

To everyone else - Youfshw has been very generous. He has taken the initiative and completed a whole bunch of requests within his first week. He has asked for constructive criticism, so please provide it (especially if you're the person who made one of the original requests).

It would also be polite to provide support. He has complained about the difficulty of creating hair mods from poor sources. If you're going to ask for more mods from the same series, then help out by finding good reference images. And remember that you can lighten his workload by volunteering to assist with ancillary tasks (such as preparing charCodes or tracing vectors) -- this may help him to focus on his actual modding work. If he prefers to work solo then he'll say so.

Thanks Stunt, a collaborative project sounds like fun. I'm fresh out of ideas atm but I'll get back to you once I've got one.

As for help from others, references are great. I'm fine doing the character codes and the tracing myself though (Tracing is my favorite part :S). In general I'll probably always be up for filling a request in a series I've already done some work on, so long as I can get a good reference and I think I'm skilled enough to make it. Requests from other series I make no guarantees for, but I will be keeping an eye on the requests board either way.

I'm not too sure what I can really add to help as far as criticisms go. The style comes very close to the anime as far as I can tell, and if you're looking for more technical details, I'm definintely NOT that guy as far as coding goes. As far as other stuff though, my only quibble is for the character code for Mako, which is make the boobs a little bigger. (Mako's a little bustier than we give her credit for.) Otherwise it is a good hair mod.

As planned, back to something simpler for this one. Went about as expected, no real complaints.

Fair point on Mako, I'll tweak it a bit.
