It's hard for me to ever sympathize with cheaters but I'm just a guy on the internet and you probably know her better than anyone else, so who am I to judge? Dude sound like a dick though, cool that you stood your ground.

Joking aside, this does sound very serious. Even if that guy is an asshole, a bully and by all accounts here, one incredible d-bag I think you need to ensure he really won't try anything funny. Guys like that tend to do some serious shit and, honestly, you need to do everything legally possible to make sure it stays like that.

I think you should let her go back to him. She cheated on you and hurt you and I don't think you'll be happy in the future if you stay with her. You definitely don't want to raise someone else's child. What's more, he'll probably have some form of custody rights, and that means he'll be in your life forever. Bail out, dude, bail out.

Oi, I read the first couple of sentences of the update and assumed the worst, turns out it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought. (And even ended on a funny note.)

While I can't say I have a great deal of personal sympathy for cheaters, it's not up to me to dictate your choices, and it seems the both of you have resolved it regardless and are genuinely looking forward here on out. Good for you on that account if you folks can make it work.

The only thing I *would* advise is to pursue what venues you can to make sure that other guy can't interfere further in your lives, especially on the legal side of things because the law can be a real stickler for the biological parents in disputes like this. You're right not to be scared of him, but be cautious anyway.

But yeah, sounds like he's pretty screwed on the legal front, and finding out he cheated first doesn't help his case either. (Probably didn't help in the divorce court either.)

Interesting that child visitation is still an option, as cases like this tend to make that the *first* thing that gets stripped from a biological father in a lot of states. Who knows, maybe that will be the factor that finally makes him get his shit together instead of flinging it at you and the mother.
