the thing with the free content, especially in drawing stuff is...It's isn't free, for most professional they pay drawing stuff (tablet, color...) and most important they gave a lot of TIME for It and it's their only way of income...If we support we can have more of their stuff and they can see that we support.
For example the furry communities is know as the one who pay the most for their commission, a lot of artist is taught that for easy money they have to take commission from furrys (even if they doesn't like in the first place )
I'm sorry, but I don't understand the term furry communities/ furrys.
But definitely, I don't pirate from people who have posted work on patreon. That means less sexy Agent Aika or Dirty Pair related pictures for me, but that's fair. I don't pay, I don't get.
That said, the thing with free content is also that in order to make a fair income, people do have to first put in a lot of hours and get lots of comments and attention. Before you becoming an artist deserving of commissions, you really need to make, what, 100 drawings of each type that you want to excel in? You can't just say, I am an expert at Warcraft combat drawings, so I can definitely do commissions of sexy female combat. That's nonsense. You know that an expert at Warcraft drawings can't do architectural drawings or portrait painting because he's not experienced in these genres. It's akin to asking me, with plenty of experience writing hental porn fantasies, to write shojo novels.
What I really hate are people who don't put in the hours and want to charge money. I've been burnt before and got tied up in disputes, so I will fund no such art anymore. Fact is, not every good or pro artist can actually draw what you want. EG somebody can draw a bunch of RPG characters damn well, but their panty shots look like crap.
So long before someone charges money to draw panty shots, he will have to practice doing panty shots. His first ten, twenty attempts probably look crude and out of proportion. These can be posted for free on deviantart for comments. The date stamps really tell us how far the artist is developing. I strongly advise potential patrons not to commission until they can see that someone's latest drawings in the same theme, have matured and are worthy of payment.
NEVER assume that a Warcraft artist can do upskirts just because he's so damn good at Warcraft sexy elves. Even worse, some of these artists are damn arrogant. Because they've been praised so much drawing fantasy drawings, they don't bother to study how other people draw upskirts, and their proportions look funny, and they just scribble something and try to pass off a first draft as a commissioned work for the money. I really hate such people.
So it comes down to interest again. UNLESS an artist really is interested in the theme enough to draw it many times and improve, I strongly discourage you commissioning work from him. An artist who is really interested, will have produced at least 100 drafts of his doujinshi and other sexy drawings even if nobody offered to pay him money. You can see all the free content you like, and if you have spare cash you can do that commission.
I have no doubt that Jacky-nee-san of Human High-Light film really is interested in themes that I like. If I won $100m in the lottery, I would definitely offer him a full time, six figure paying job to make doujinshi for me... I guess I can fantasize on.
