does umod works consistently for anyone here?? I mean when you setup umod properly, and mods will always load with the game.
my computer is alienware m17x, with switchable graphic AMD card, 64bit win8, i mainly use umod 2.49
for me, umod doesn't work consistently(doesn't matter which version of umod). umod is able to detect client.exe, and opens a new tab and you can open textures too, but no modifications will be made to the game. Although there are some conditions umod worked and mods loaded on my computer, I will list them down here (also, just to be safe, I turn off all antivirus programs, go to services.exe , deactivate windows defender, windows firewall etc):
1. if I return comp to factory default image(reinstall), then for the first time I open the game and umod, mods will load and work. wont work anymore after that. (my comp is fast, takes around 20mins to do factory default, but wipeout all programs installed...)
2. have another copy of BnS on an external hard disk, set game directory on the external hard disk(change registery), and open game and umod as normal.
-if the game runs after game guard and BnS logo, then umod will be working and mods will load
-if the game isn't running after logo, then you have to safely removes the external hard disks and plug in to try again. until once the game is running after logo. it can take up to like 4-5 tries...
3. changes the directory of the game, eg: change x:/program files(x86)/plaync/BnS to x:/program files(x86)/plaync/New Folder/BnS (change registry), delete "NCLauncher' and "NCPlugin" folder, copy the "NCLauncher' and "NCPlugin" folders from external hard disk. next time you run the game, NClauncher will have a blue progress bars appears.
-if the game runs after BnS logo, umod will work and mods will load into the game.
-sometimes the game doesn't run, just try again
I have no idea why doing these will sometimes makes it work. It usually take me 1 hr to allow umod working properly on my computer, I feel its kinda like luck, theres no a series of actions you can do before hand to let umod work always? makes me feel likes its computer specific, likes some people can get it work consistently, some only work for once. dunno the actual reasons...
in my case, umod can opens up a new "client" tabs, but cannot modify the game texture, it means that umod is able to detect the game, but somehow the global hook injection was too late. The dll needs to be injection before the game calls the relevant DirectX function, so the global hook was able to intercept the textures and modifies them.
Also, umod is not a completed software, it still has lots of bugs, it might be just a bug of the software, of course I hopes its not.. unfortunately no one is supporting the development of umod anymore.
there are 3 injection methods listed on umod official site, seems like only the first one works, the 3rd one:
Let the game load umod dll.
1.copy umod d3d9.dll into the games directory.
2.start uMod
3.start the game (e.g. double click on the desktop icon)
it will just causes the game to be shut down immediately after logo... tries many times already.
all versions of umods are still working in KR server. it just takes a long time and messing around for it to work on my comp.
{also carl1905 said about the naming of dds, from what I see, umod1.44 and 2.49 has different naming to a same texture, 2.49 and 2.53 has same naming. And you don't have to know the naming of texture dds, when you extract the textures from the game, it already has name on it}
